The Archangel Ancient Tree Archive's David Milarch Will Present to WELLKIND Forestry
By Catriona MacGregor Glazebrook
WELLKIND is pleased to announce that David Milarch, the founder of Archangel Ancient Tree Archive (AATA), will be presenting to our Forestry Program interns on November 16.
WELLKIND understands that forests, trees and plants are essential to the long-term health of the Earth and its atmosphere. We work to apply innovative solutions for the long-term health of the planet, forests and wildlife.
The WELLKIND Forestry Internship provides college-level education and vocational training in science, forest and wildlife management and environmental communications to high school students ages 16-18. In this way, we prepare them to be the next generation of green professionals and environmental stewards.
David Milarch works towards his vision of replanting the earth with the genetics of the world’s remaining ancient forests.
He is a third-generation nurseryman with over 40 years of experience in propagation and reforestation. He has been awarded the following honors: the Grant Thornton Leader and Innovator Award, the Garden Club of America’s Distinguished Service Award, Traverse Magazine’s Person of the Year, the National Daughters of the American Revolution’s National Conservation Medal, the National Garden Clubs’ Award of Excellence for Conservation, Biography Magazine’s Hero Award, and the Garden Club of America’s Highest Award for Conservation.
Archangel’s early experimentation with propagation led to scientific success in cloning the oldest and largest trees in existence. These “best of the bes” trees remain critical to the protection of our planet.
AATA has developed a micro-propagation system for replicating old-growth genetics that can be shared with partner facilities in other countries to produce literally millions of champion trees for reforestation globally. Thousands of these cloned trees in various stages of development have the exact DNA of the parent “champion” tree.
AATA has now also demonstrated proven success to reforest with the world’s first “super grove” of cloned coast redwoods and giant sequoias in Oregon.
Milarch will be presenting to the WELLKIND Forestry interns, who are diving deep into learning solutions to address present-day issues like climate change. Our interns explore the most cutting-edge knowledge in environmental science; complete real-world communications projects and restoration work; and meet experts in the fields of science, habitat management, and wildlife protection.
