WellKind Receives $5,000 Grant from Sprouts Farmers Market

Sprouts Community Foundation will help WellKind Garden Program build school gardens and offer outdoor education in Sonoma and Marin

SAN FRANCISCO, CA
NEWS PROVIDED BY WELLKIND

On October 7, the Sprouts Community Foundation presented WellKind with a grant in a ceremony at a Sprouts Farmers Market in San Rafael, CA.  With the grant, WellKind will help provide more gardens for more schools and continue to teach science in the garden in Marin and Sonoma counties.

WellKind’s Garden Program currently reaches over 8,000 students. The organization partners with 23 K-12 public schools, over 85% of which are supported by the federal Title 1 program providing funding assistance to schools with large numbers of students from low-income families. WellKind’s gardens encourage kids to learn about healthy eating, take home food to their families and discover nature and science in a hands-on way.

WellKind is currently accepting applications for mini-grant proposals from Marin and Sonoma County public schools that are creating or sustaining a garden, or are taking on other garden-related projects.

If you think your school could benefit from a garden grant, apply soon. The deadline for a school garden from WellKind is December 31, 2022 so schools can be selected in January and begin planting in the spring. Visit https://www.wellkind.org/minigrants2022 to apply.
